Why Go2Work Tampa Bay?

Go2Work Tampa Bay is a Hillsborough Education Foundation project funded by a Citi Foundation Pathways to Progress Youth Workforce Fund grant. It streamlines the ongoing, proven talent pipeline between our Hillsborough Technical Colleges (HTC) and community businesses. Tampa Bay Partnership's 2019 Regional Competitiveness Report cites nearly 14% of Tampa Bay residents who are 16 to 24 years old are neither employed or in school. Go2Work Tampa Bay engages students while they are enrolled in postsecondary adult vocational training and works in partnership with their instructors to prepare them for long-term, sustainable employment success upon graduation.

While students are in their training programs, we deliver skill-building workshops in the employability and "soft" skills that their industry deems critical to success and work with instructors to place skilled, certified, and licensed program graduates in high-demand jobs. Registration for a Go2Work Tampa Bay - Job Connect portal gives qualified employers instant access to an ongoing pipeline of job-ready students for high-demand, hard to fill occupations.

Our Core Objectives:

  1. Connect technically trained, job-ready Hillsborough Technical Colleges (HTC) graduates with high-need jobs
  2. Provide a direct talent pipeline for employers looking for job-ready employees that match specific skills, certification, or licensing requirements
  3. Educate students to the “soft” skills training required for work

How Were the Targeted Industries Selected?

The program designers used industry data to identify high-demand jobs in Hillsborough County within six industry clusters:

  1. Architecture/Construction
  2. Information Technology and Services
  3. Health Science
  4. Manufacturing
  5. Hospitality/Leisure Management
  6. Finance/Accounting

Next, these jobs were aligned with the current HTC programs that produce job-ready graduates and demonstrate a need for placement assistance.


Which High-Need Programs Are Part of Go2Work Tampa Bay?

All Hillsborough Technical College (HTC) graduates and hiring partners are invited to connect through our Job Connect registration. G2WTB targets job candidates and hiring partners in four specific areas based on industry data from the Department of Labor, Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation, Florida Chamber of CommerceFlorida Department of Education Curriculum Frameworks, and HTC program instructors, administrators, and advisory committee members.

What Do Go2Work Tampa Bay Workshops Emphasize?

The workshops provided while students are enrolled in their technical programs emphasize "soft" skills. This term describes the personal attributes needed to work effectively and get along with others in a work environment.

Our program developers analyzed job descriptions (including knowledge, skills, and other relevant occupational requirements) for high-demand, entry-level and mid-level occupations in Hillsborough County. Next, they aligned that industry information with our list of targeted jobs to create detailed descriptions of employability and "soft" skills required within each industry and specific occupation.

The Go2Work Tampa Bay project focuses its topics in the following five areas:
